Black Feather’s adjustments

January 4, 2011

Black Feather is a big part of the current metagame.

Currently, the top 4 metgame decks are (in no specific order):
– Six Samurai
– Black Feather
– Debris Dandy
– Angel

There have been minor changes to the majority of the BF in japan (at least those deck lists that I come across) in the past month.

Below is an example:

4th Tetsu Championship: 3rd
Player: Hero
(Source: ━━━━体は札で出来ている。)

2x Dark Bribe

Extra Deck: 15

1x Ally of Justice Catastor
1x Ally of Justice Decisive Arms
1x Blackwing Armed Wing
1x Blackwing Armor Master
1x Blackwing – Silverwind the Ascendant
1x Colossal Fighter
1x Scrap Dragon
1x Dark End Dragon
1x Stardust Dragon
1x Black Rose Dragon
1x Goyo Guardian
1x Magical Android
1x Thought Ruler Archfiend
1x Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
1x Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier

Sirocco has been dropped to 1 copy. At the beginning of this ban list, it was 3, then 2 after Spirit Reaper has been added. For the above deck list, Giant Trunade replaces the 2nd copy of Sirocco.

Six Samurai is still the most popular deck and the deck to beat. Sirocco is a half-dead draw against Six Samurai.

Found this on Only The Duel.

So I finally get around to making a supposedly decently strong Blackwings deck.

Unfortunately for me, the first 10 games with it were against Six Samurai…

Sirocco is quite the dead draw against Samurai, is it not?

I agree with him. That should explain why many Black Feather players dropped Sirocco to 1. Although having more Sirocco is good in mirror, but as stated above: 10 games with Six Samurai. I’ve been considering if Giant Trunade deserves a place in the main deck more than the 2nd Sirocco. I stick to 2x Sirocco myself, and I adjust it after I side deck. I keep 1x Sirocco when I start first and 2x when I don’t.

I asked myself whether Giant Trunade is better against Six Samurai instead. And I’ll say it’s average because of Shien, unless it’s to force a negate from Shien. Other than Giant Trunade, I saw other substitutions like 7-tool of Bandit, Delta-crow Anti-reverse etc. However, almost every BF deck list that I’ve gone through (both 1x or 2x Sirocco) plays Giant Trunade in main deck now. There have to be some plus points for playing Giant Trunade.

Another change in BF for the last month (maybe more than that) is picking Legendary Jujitsu Master over Snowman Eater in side deck. Legendary Jujitsu Master is better than Snowman Eater when you play against Six Samurai due to Shien’s ‘substitution’ effect which prevents it from being destroyed easily. Legendary Jujitsu Master works because Six Samurai players usually use Shien to attack first in order to make use of its effect. E.g. Shien attacks on Shura, and Kalut is used in Damage Calculation. Shien’s effect will prevent itself from being destroyed and also seal off Shura’s effect. Therefore, Legendary Jujitsu Master works due to this mentality.

Legendary Jujitsu Master then became a common tech card against Six Samurai. Six Samurai players is aware of it and use other monsters to attack a face down monster. The above side deck has Penguin Soldier instead. When a monster other than Shien attacks it, it then targets Shien and another monster that has not attacked. It works like a ‘1-turn Waboku’, and you can get rid of the Shien with a 1 for 1 card advantage trade.

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo is also an interesting card. Overall, the strategy against Six Samurai seems to avoid Solemn Warning. So often when Six Samurai starts first, you’ll have to face Shien + Solemn Warning lock. By setting a monster which can get rid of Shien is one of the current strategies against the lock. Of course, Puppet Plant is another way.
